MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Mayor and four Trustees make up the governing board of our village.  At the annual meeting each year, the Mayor assigns members of the Board of Trustees to act as Commissioners in charge of various departments.  The members report on their department activities at each Board meeting.  All matters of policy and procedure are acted upon by the Village Board.

The Village Board meets in regular public session twice each month (except during July and August) on the first and third Tuesdays, unless notice to the contrary is given.  During July and August, the Village Board meets on the third Tuesday.  These meetings are held in Village Hall at 8:00 pm for the transaction of village business and to provide a forum for residents to discuss any subject of interest.  Changes in the regular meeting schedule and announcements for special meetings and hearings are publicized in the local newspaper.

OFFICE OF THE VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR

The village office is the place to obtain information, purchase parking permits, dog licenses and pay village taxes.  All records (vital statistics, payroll, personnel, assessment and tax, financing, and budget) come under this department.  The Village Administrator bears many titles: Treasurer and Chief Fiscal Officer, Budget Officer, Tax Collector and Purchasing Agent.  The Village Clerk acts as  Registrar of Vital Statistics and Clerk to the Board of Trustees.

The Village Administrator is assisted by the Village Clerk, and the Deputy Village Treasurer, all of whom are appointed by the Mayor and Board of Trustees.  The Village Administrator coordinates all the resources of village government to carry out the programs determined by the Board, provides the necessary information for open hearings and special meetings; complies with state regulations and procedures for financial and related matters; prepares tentative budget figures, bills and collects taxes, coordinates buying through purchase orders, bids and contracts for equipment and services, and assists the residents in matters concerning our village such as parking permits, dog licenses and garage sale permits.

THE VILLAGE ASSESSOR

The Assessor prepares an assessment roll which is used to establish each property owner’s fair share of village taxes.  This is done by maintaining records of property ownership, tax exemptions, property values and physical inventory changes.  Residents are encouraged to make inquiries regarding special tax exemptions that the Inc. Village of Floral Park has made available to senior citizens, veterans, the physically disabled and volunteer firefighters.  The Floral Park assessment roll is independent and separate from the Nassau County roll and their assessment methods.
