2012 SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM SCHEDULE
June 25 through August 16

Registrations will be held in the Recreation/Pool Building on the following dates:

   Registration for full day camp, teen tennis lessons, youth tennis camp and children's gardening will be held on:
Saturday, May 12
in the Recreation/Pool Building from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Registration for all other youth and adult tennis programs will be held on:
 June 2 and June 9 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and
June 3 and June 10 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Registration for adult basketball and volleyball will be held on:
May 28, 29, 30, 31 and June 4, 5, 6, 7  from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Original birth certificate required where noted. 
2012/2013 V.F.P. Leisure Pass or 2011 Resident Pool Pass required for all registrations.   
A waiting period may apply.
Late registration for youth summer programs will be June 25.

There is no fee for most youth summer programs.  All events require proper athletic shoes.
All information is subject to change.  Paid programs are non-refundable.
Any photos taken by the Recreation Department may be used at the discretion of the village.


PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM

            June 25 through August 16           

This program includes arts and crafts, story time, and group play.  Child must be 3-5 years old
by June 25. 2012.  Parents will be required to remain in the area while program is in progress. 
Children may attend one group only.
A 2012/13 Village of Floral Park Leisure Pass or 2011 Resident Pool Pass and
original birth certificate will be required at registration.

REGISTRATION WILL BE:
 JUNE 2, and 9  - 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
JUNE 3 and 10  - 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

ARTS AND CRAFTS PROGRAM
June 25 through August 16

The Arts & Crafts program is designed for girls and boys in the 1st grade through 6th grade as of Fall 2012.
Children will be instructed to make creative projects, using a variety of
materials in order to excite the child's imagination.
A 2012/13 Village of Floral Park Leisure Pass or 2011 Resident Pool Pass and
original birth certificate will be required at registration.
Special events:  4th of July Blast, Wild West Show Down, Mardi Gras Celebration, Sports Extravaganza, Pirates Day and Year-End Tie Dye.

PRIMARY GRADE RECREATION PROGRAM

June 25 through August 16

The activities recommended for children in the primary grade levels (grades 1, 2 and 3 as of Fall 2012) are suggested by the school district's Physical Education Department.  Activities will be of a non-competitive nature.  The activities may include overtake relays, spin the doughnut, capture the flag (grade 3), running bases, relay races, soccer, and fishes and whales.  The importance of good sportsmanship will be emphasized.
A 2012/2013 Village of Floral Park Leisure Pass or 2011 Resident Pool Pass and
original birth certificate will be required at registration.

Grade Eligibility..................................................Grades 1, 2 and 3 as of the Fall of 2012.
Groups........................Children will be divided into 4 groups.

REGISTRATION WILL BE:

BINGO PROGRAM
June 27 through August 15

This program is designed for children under the age of 12. 
Prizes are awarded to winners of the various games. 
No registration necessary.

FULL DAY CAMP
June 25 through August 16

The camp program will be divided into eight sessions.  Each session is one week (four days). 
The session will include age-appropriate activities, arts and crafts, swimming, snacks,
lunch and movies as well as rainy day activities.


MUST BE AGES 5 - 10
AS OF JUNE 24, 2012

The following restrictions apply:

1.  Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
2.  Limited to only one session per child.  (Depending on enrollment numbers). 
3.  We are limited to 20 children for each session.
4.  Sessions will run Monday through Thursday - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
5.  No multiple family applications allowed at the time of registration.

9:00 am to 3:00 pm AT Recreation/Pool Building

Registration Fee......$165.00 per child (preferred payment by check to:  Inc. Village of Floral Park)
Non-pool members will be charged an additional fee of $20.00 per child.
A 2012/13 Village of Floral Park Leisure Pass or 2011 Resident Pool Pass and
original birth certificate will be required at registration.

MORNING SPORTS PROGRAM
June 27 through August 18

This program is open to all children in grades 4 through 12 who are interested in acquiring some basic fundamental skills and techniques of team sports, as well as the recreational enjoyment of league play.  There is a maximum of 40 participants per league. 
 Sneakers are required for all activities.

Grade Eligibility.................................Grade 4 through Grade 12 (as of fall of 2011)
Days: ......................Monday through Thursday

Times ...................Grades 4, 5, and 6............8:30 am to 10:00 am
                             Grades 7 through 12.........10:00 am to 11:30 am

Monday, August 15 is OLYMPIC DAY!
Children registered in the morning sports program can participate
in Olympic style events to see who will bring home the Gold!

(June 25 - July 5)
Instructional drills, contests and league play geared to a wide range of ability and skill levels.


Girls Cheerleading - Week 1

(June 25 - June 28)
The program will teach girls fundamental skills and cheers in preparation for participation in cheerleading
at the junior and senior high school levels.


Girls Softball - Week 2
(July 2 - July 5)
  Girls will participate in batting and fielding practice prior to actual games.  
All participants must supply their own glove.  No cleats allowed.


WEEKS 3 & 4
July 9 through July 19

Boys Cage Soccer - Weeks 3 & 4
(
July 9 - July 19))
Rules for indoor soccer will be used.  Teams will be chosen on the first day of camp. 
All games will be played on the multi-purpose court. 
No cleats allowed.


Girls Volleyball
Consisting of group instruction, daily drills, contests and games with squads of equal talent. 
The primary goal is to develop basic volleyball skills (serving, bumping, and setting)
while at the same time have the girls enjoy the game's recreational value.



WEEKS 5 & 6
July 23 through August 2


Boys  Touch Football   

The program will involve drills and league play.  Boys are divided into equal leagues and teams according to age, skill level and ability.  Highlights for the program are the Punt, Pass and Kick Contest and Championship Thursday, held on the last day of camp.

No cleats allowed.


Girls Basketball
The campers will meet daily and be divided into teams according to skill.  The program will
 consist of lectures, clinics, daily drills, individual and group instruction,
contests and league games.


WEEKS  7 & 8
August 6 through August 16

Boys Volleyball
Fundamental skills of the game, and introduction to team play.  Matches played daily.


Girls Cage Soccer  
Girls will be introduced to the fundamental skills and rules of indoor soccer. 
 Matches played daily.   No cleats allowed.

AFTERNOON INTRAMURALS
All children registered in the morning sports program can participate, or any VFP youth may sign up at any time
 to participate in a supervised game of "Tennie-Ball" in supervised group activities
Monday- Thursday at 1:00 pm.

CHILDREN'S GARDENING
Session begins Saturday, June 23

Children explore the magic of gardening, discover the animals and insects that call the garden home. 
Children will plant vegetables, herbs and flowers, enjoy nature walks, and construct nature crafts.

GARDEN SPROUTS:  Ages 3-5  Saturdays 8:00 to 8:45 am   or   9:00 to 9:45 am (parents must stay)
BUDDING HORTICULTURISTS:  Ages 6 - 10  Saturdays 10:00 to 10:45 am  or  11:00 to 11:45 am

TEEN TENNIS LESSONS
June 25 through August 1

This program is designed to develop and improve your tennis skills.  For intermediate players only.
Drills, individual and group instruction will be given.
Participants must bring tennis racquet and proper tennis shoes.

TENNIS YOUTH CAMPS
June 25 through August 9

Designed to develop and improve skills for the beginner and intermediate players consisting of small groups according to age, grade and ability level.  Instruction will be given on the Har-Tru tennis courts to better develop proper learning techniques. 
Participants must bring their own tennis racquet and proper tennis shoes. 

Grade Eligibility...............Girls and boys entering grades 4 through 8 in the fall of 2012.

ADULT TENNIS LESSONS

NOTE:  THIS PROGRAM STARTS ONE WEEK BEFORE ALL OTHER SUMMER PROGRAMS


This program consists of a series of lessons for the beginner and/or intermediate level player.
Group and individual instruction with focus on proper fundamentals in forehand, backhand, serve, volley, approach shot, singles and doubles play, and scorekeeping.  The program culminates in a singles and doubles tournament on the last day of the program. 
There will be a limit of 12 players per class.
Participants must wear sneakers and supply their own racquet.


Lesson Days and Times:  Friday (June 22 through August 10)        8:00 am and 9:05 am
                                  Saturday (June 23 through August 11)  8:00 am and 9:05 am

JIM KRUG MEMORIAL FALL TENNIS CLASSIC

The Recreation Department will sponsor the 2012 Jim Krug Memorial Fall Tennis Classic.

The tournament will be structured to accommodate players of various skill levels. 
This event will include doubles and singles brackets for both men and women. 
The classic will conclude with an awards ceremony and refreshments.

Registration will be on Thursday August 16 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and
Sunday August 19 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am


Fee:.............................$25.00 (one division)
                                         $45.00 (two of more divisions)
