2008 SUMMER PROGRAM SCHEDULE
June 30 through August 21

Registration will be held in the Shelter House or Recreation/Pool Building on the following dates:

Registration for full day camp and tennis camp will be held on Saturday, May 17 in the Recreation/Pool Building from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Original birth certificate required where noted.  2008/2009 V.F.P. Leisure Pass or 2007 Resident Pool Pass required for all registrations.  Late registration for Youth Summer Programs
will be June 30, 2008.  A waiting period may apply.

There is no fee for most youth summer programs.  All events require proper athletic shoes.
All information is subject to change.              Paid programs are non-refundable.
Any photos taken by the Recreation Department may be used at the discretion of the village.
 




PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM

June 30 through August 21           

This program includes arts and crafts, story time, and group play.  Child must be 3-5 years old
by June 30, 2008.  Parents will be required to remain in the area while program is in progress. 
Children may attend one group only.
A 2008/2009 Village of Floral Park Leisure Pass or 2007 Resident Pool Pass and
original birth certificate will be required at registration.

Age eligibility..........................................................3-5 years old as of June 30, 2008

Group A (Ages 4 and 5)........Mondays & Wednesdays   10:00 am to 11:00 am
Group B (Ages 3 and 4).........Tuesdays & Thursdays   10:00 am to 11:00 am

ARTS AND CRAFTS PROGRAM

June 30 through August 21

The Arts & Crafts program is designed for girls and boys in the primary and intermediate grade levels.  Children will be instructed to make creative projects, using a variety of
materials in order to excite the child's imagination.
A 2008/2009 Village of Floral Park Leisure Pass or 2007 Resident Pool Pass and
original birth certificate will be required at registration.
Special events:  4th of July Blast, Wild West Show Down, Mardi Gras Celebration, Sports Extravaganza, and Year-End Tie Dye, Pirates Day

PRIMARY GRADE RECREATION PROGRAM

June 30 through August 21

The activities recommended for children in the primary grade levels are suggested by the school district's Physical Education Department.  Activities will be of a non-competitive nature.  The activities may include overtake relays, spin the doughnut, capture the flag (grade 3), running bases, relay races, soccer, and fishes and whales.  The importance of good sportsmanship will be emphasized.
A 2008/2009 Village of Floral Park Leisure Pass or 2007 Resident Pool Pass and
original birth certificate will be required at registration.

Grade Eligibility..................................................Grades 1, 2 and 3 as of the fall of 2008.
Groups........................Children will be divided into 4 groups of approximately 50 children.

Days available:       Group A (grades 1 and 2)...........Monday and Wednesday
                         Group B (grades 2 and 3)........Tuesday and Thursday
Times available:     9:00 am to 10:00 am     ~or~   10:15 am to 11:15 am

BINGO PROGRAM

July 2 through August 20

This program is designed for children under the age of 12.  Prizes are awarded to winners
of the various games.  No registration necessary.

FULL DAY CAMP
June 30 through August 21

The camp program will be divided into eight sessions.  Each session is one week (four days) long.  The session will include age-appropriate activities, arts and crafts, swimming, snacks, lunch and movies as well as rainy day activities.

MUST BE AGES 5 - 10 AS OF JUNE 30, 2008

The following restrictions apply:

1.  Accommodations for 200 children per season.  Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
2.  Limited to only one session per child.  (Depending on enrollment numbers). 
3.  We are limited to 20 children for each session.
4.  The session will run Monday through Thursday - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
5.  No multiple family applications allowed at the time of registration.

 

REGISTRATION WILL BE ON SATURDAY, MAY 17
9:00 AM TO 3:00 PM AT THE RECREATION/POOL BUILDING

Registration Fee......$150.00 per child (preferred payment by check to:  Inc. Village of Floral Park)
Non-pool members will be charged an additional fee of $20.00 per child.

MORNING SPORTS PROGRAM
June 30 through August 21

This program is open to all children in grades 4 through 12 who are interested in acquiring some basic fundamental skills and techniques of team sports, as well as the recreational enjoyment of league play.  There is a maximum of 40 participants per league.  Sneakers are required for all activities.

Grade Eligibility.................................Grade 4 through Grade 12 (as of fall of 2008)
Days: ......................Monday through Thursday
Times ...................Grades 4, 5, and 6............8:30 am to 10:00 am
                             Grades 7 through 12.........10:00 am to 11:30 am

Week 1   June 25 - July 3
Girls Cheerleading

The program will teach girls fundamental skills and cheers in preparation for participation in cheerleading at the junior and senior high school levels.

Week 2   July 7 - July 10
Girls Softball
The program will consist of individual and group instruction and daily games.  Girls will participate in batting and fielding practice prior to actual games.   All participants must supply their own glove.  No cleats allowed.

CHILDREN'S GARDENING

Little ones can get their hands dirty down at Centennial Gardens.  Explore the magic of gardening, discover the animals and insects that call the garden home.  Children will plant vegetables, herbs and flowers, enjoy nature walks and construct nature crafts.
GARDEN SPROUTS:  Ages 3-5  Saturdays 8:00 to 8:45    or   9:00 to 9:45 (parents must stay)
BUDDING HORTICULTURISTS:  Ages 6 - 10  Saturdays 10:00 to 10:45   or  11:00 to 11:45

Boys Basketball
Instructional, drills, contests and league play geared to a wide range of ability and skill.



WEEKS 3 & 4
July 14 through July 24

Boys  Cage Soccer
Rules for indoor soccer will be used.  Teams will be chosen on the first day of camp. 
All games will be played on the multi-purpose court. 
No cleats allowed.


Girls Volleyball
Consisting of group instruction, daily drills, contests and games with squads of equal talent. 
The primary goal is to develop basic volleyball skills (serving, bumping, and setting)
while at the same time have the girls enjoy the game's recreational value.



WEEKS 5 & 6
July 28 through August 7

Boys  Touch Football
The program will involve drills and league play.  Boys are divided into equal leagues and teams according to age, skill level and ability.  Highlights for the program are the Punt, Pass and Kick Contest and Championship Thursday, held on the last day of camp.
No cleats allowed.

Girls Basketball
The campers will meet daily and be divided into teams according to skill.  The program will
 consist of lectures, clinics, daily drills, individual and group instruction,
contests and league games.


WEEKS  7 & 8
August 11 through August 21

Boys Volleyball
Fundamentals of serving, bumping, and setting.  Team defense and offense will also be introduced at  a fundamental level.  Individual and group drills will precede daily games. 
Teams, composed of members with equal skills and abilities, will play three matches each morning.

Girls Cage Soccer
Girls will be introduced to the fundamental skills and rules of indoor soccer.  Teams will be chosen on the first day of camp.  All games will be played on the multi-purpose court.
No cleats allowed.

Children registered in the morning sports program can participate in group activities
sponsored by our counselors which take place at 1:00 pm

TENNIS YOUTH CAMPS
June 30 through August 14

This program is open to boys and girls entering grades 4 through 8.  The camp is designed to develop and improve skills for the beginner and intermediate player.  The one week program runs for two hours a day, Monday - Thursday, consisting of small groups (4 students to 1 instructor).  Children will be placed in small groups according to age, grade and ability level.  All campers will be given a T-shirt.  Instruction will be given on the Har-Tru tennis courts which are better suited to the development of proper learning techniques.  Participants must bring their own tennis racquet and proper tennis shoes.

Grade Eligibility...............Girls and boys entering grades 4 through 8 for the fall of 2008.

Program is divided into men's and women's leagues.  Playoff and championship games
will take place at the end of the season.  Referees will officiate at each game.
Rally scoring will be used for all games.

The program will consist of two divisions
Division 1 - High school graduates and over

ADULT TENNIS LESSONS

NOTE:  THIS PROGRAM STARTS ONE WEEK BEFORE ALL OTHER SUMMER PROGRAMS

This program consists of a series of lessons for players with beginner to intermediate skills.  Group and individual instruction with focus on proper fundamentals in the following:  forehand, backhand, serve, volley, approach shot, singles, and doubles play, scorekeeping.  The program culminates in a singles and doubles round-robin tournament on the last day of the program. 
There will be a limit of 12 players per class.  Participants must supply their own racquet.

ADULT TENNIS
ANNUAL JIM KRUG CLASSIC
TENNIS TOURNAMENT

The Recreation Department will sponsor the 2008 Adult Tennis Classic.  The tournament will be structured to accommodate players of various skill levels.  This event will include doubles and singles brackets for both men and women.  The classic will conclude with an
awards ceremony and refreshments.
