Fire Department Overview
Under the leadership of Chief John Kelleher, the Floral Park Fire Department, which is all volunteer, is comprised of dedicated individuals who strive to meet the needs of the residents of our village.
In addition to responding to more than 1,200 emergency and fire calls a year, today’s technological advances require firefighters to be trained in a far more technical capacity. The Fire Department focuses its training around the makeup of the Village’s residential and commercial properties.
Being a firefighter in Floral Park requires our members to take on the role of first aid givers, advanced life support technicians, good listeners, plumbers, electricians, teachers, mechanics, and most importantly, friends and neighbors.
One of the main responsibilities of the Fire Department is fire prevention. Our members are trained very thoroughly as fire inspectors. This enables us to inspect and offer advice to owners of commercial occupancies on how to maintain a safe atmosphere and
surroundings for themselves and employees. But our fire prevention activities do not stop there. The Fire Department provides speakers for civic associations, fraternal organizations, girl scouts, boy scouts, senior citizen groups, and any organization that forwards a request. Annual visits to our local schools to conduct fire drills, make inspections as necessary, and provide speakers who introduce the role of a firefighter to our young students, are all part of what we do as firefighters.For more information go to www.floralparkfd.com.
